Trout Fishing Farmstay

 

This very angler friendly farmstay accommodation has superb year-round fishing for both rainbow and brown trout right on the properrty. In fact the Waihou and Waimakariri Rivers on the farm were two of the 2008 World Fly Fishing Competition venues.

Top of the line fishing rods (both fly and spinner) are available free of charge for guests and an experienced guide can be arranged if required.

Location

A1 Trout Fishing Farmstay is marked on the upper Waihou River map. It is:

- 5 kms south of Tirau

- 25 minutes from Rotorua and the Rotorua lakes fishing

- 50 minutes from Taupo and Lake Taupo

Directions

Travel south from Tirau for 5km towards Rotorua on SH5. A1 Trout Fishing is opposite the museum and honey shop.

Features

A working dairy farm on 75 hectares of attractive, rolling country where:

  • The New Zealand trout fishing team, the Silver Flies, is selected
  • Numerous fishing competitions are held, including the 2008 World Fly Fishing Competition
  • A professional count found 1000 fish in one kilometre of river
  • Fishing licenses can be arranged when you arrive.
  • You are just five minutes from the prosperous township of Tirau with its variety of unique shops, cafes and restaurants.
  • Sightseeing and fishing are within easy reach

  • You are only:
    - 15 minutes from Matamata (Lord of the Rings fame)
    - 20 minutes from Cambridge, a pretty English town
    - 35 minutes from the harbour at Tauranga
    - 45 minutes from the city of Hamilton
    - 50 minutes from the Waitomo Caves

The Farmstay

The farmstay is a fully equipped cottage that provides:

  • Four bedrooms with king, queen and king single beds.
  • Electric blankets and all linen supplied
  • Fully equipped kitchen with oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer
  • Lounge with 32" TV, DVD/video player, and stereo/radio
  • Dining room
  • Washing machine and clothes dryer
  • Bathroom with hair dryer and clean towels supplied daily
  • Log fire
  • Alarm clock

The Main Residence

The main residence is a modern brick home that provides:

  • Three bedrooms
  • Bathroom
  • Jacuzzi on private grounds
