At Forest Lodge and the Owhango Hotel there's a friendly relaxing atmosphere and a choice of accommodation. Your host offers personalised guided trout fishing in the world class wilderness fishing of the Ruapehu and the surrounding areas.

Individuals, couple and groups are catered for and if you're not keen to cook, the hotel restaurant and bar are just down the road from the lodge.

Location

Forest Lodge is marked on the Whakapapa River map and the upper Whanganui River map.

It is located in Owhango, a quiet country village on the Central Plateau at Latitude 39 South.

About the fishing

Ruapehu and the surrounding areas offering angling of all types:

  • Experience trophy lake fishing
  • Challenge yourself in wilderness back country head waters
  • Sight fishing for large trout in streams almost small enough to jump over
  • Target the evening rise on large boulder strewn rivers

Room 4 : Double + single bed  with ensuite (sleeps 3 )
Room 5 : Double + single + set of bunks with ensuite (sleeps 5)
Room 6 : Two sets of bunks (sleeps 4)

Cottage: Sleeps 6 comfortably but can can accommodate up to 8.

All bed linen and towels are provided.

 Forest Lodge motel A one-bedroomed self-contained motel unit sleeps 2 in a double bed. An extra person can be accommodated.
Forest Lodge cottages

Three 4-bedroom cottages provide shared backpacker accommodation, or an entire cottage can be booked for a group. Separate women's accommodation is available. This is one of the few lodges where you can book all your accommodation for your group.

A typical cottage sleeps 13 people in 4 rooms:

  • One bedroom sleeps 4 in a queen bed plus a bunk bed
  • One bedroom sleeps 5 in a queen bed plus bunk beds
  • One bedroom sleeps 4 in a double bed plus a bunk bed
  • One bedroom sleeps 4 in 2 bunk beds
