Karangahake River Lodge and Campervan Park is bounded on two sides by the beautiful Ohinemuri River which is teeming with brown and rainbow trout and popular with trout fishers. Fishing licences are available to purchase.

The accommodation options range from powered campervan sites to self contained cabins, and excellent facilities.

Location

Karangahake River Lodge and Campervan Park is marked on the Ohinemuri River map.

Facilities

River Lodge

  • Sleeps up to 14 people in four bunkrooms
  • Shared ‘gathering toom’ with a comfortable lounge area, gas fire heating, dining table and fully equipped kitchen
  • Access friendly with ramps and disabled bathroom facilities
  • Guests supply their own bedding or bedding is available for hire

Park Motel

  • Two self contained cabins
  • Kitchen facilities
  • Private bathroom
  • All bedding and linen provided
  • Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar and milk

Power sites

  • Campervans are provided with superior facilities in park like surroundings
  • Three ensuite style bathrooms plus additional separate toilet to cater for 10 sites
  • Coin operated washing machine and dryer are available
  • Because of the environmental sensitivity of the riverside location we are unable to offer dump facilities for campervan toilet waste. However, both Paeroa and Waihi supply dump facilities adjacent to public toilets
Local attractions and activities

Aside from fishing the beautiful local waters, there are many other local attractions in the Karangahake area, such as:

  • Exploring the area's rich gold mining history
  • Walking the many local DOC walkways which give access to historic mining sites, stunning gorge scenery, a kilometre long rail tunnel and old mine drives
  • Tours and lunch at the Ohinemuri Estate Winery and Cafe (23mins walk)
  • Antique shops in Paeroa (5 mins car)
  • Hot spa pools in Te Aroha (20 mins car)
  • Surf and sea at Waihi Beach (25 mins car)

  • NZ$60 for two people
  • NZ$30 per extra adult
  • NZ$15 per extra child

Park Motel

  • NZ$100 for two people
  • NZ$30 per extra adult
  • NZ$20 per extra child

Power sites

  • NZ$25 for two people
  • NZ$12.50 per extra adult
  • NZ$10 per extra child

Directions
  • Turn off SH2 over the historic Karangahake bridge. (The Karangahake Hall is clearly visible on the other side of the river)
  • Turn right into River Road which follows the riverbank.
  • Drive to the end of the road which is where the park is located.
