Motu Fishing

Fishing waters

The Motu River, which is within walking distance, is one of New Zealand's best dry fly fishing rivers, and probably the best brown trout fishery in the North Island.

A typical day
  • Start the day with a cooked or continental breakfast and pick up a packed lunch for the fishermen
  • After a days fishing come back to relaxed atmosphere of Hazelwood, a homestead registered with the Historic Places Trust and built in 1908 for Simon's great-grandfather.
  • Sit on the balcony with a drink as the shadows lengthen across the lawn or argue amiably over a game of petanque down by the creek.
  • Enjoy a three course meal of all things New Zealand served in the dining room looking out onto the informal park like gardens.
  • Take a break from fishing and soothe the soul with a walk to Kotare Stations Back River Hut and take in the high peaks, stunning native bush and crystal clear mountain streams
  • Take a gentle walk along the Winray Track to view the Motu Falls

Guiding

The daily guiding fee includes lunch. Transport to remote areas may be extra.

  • $350 per day for 1 person (full day)
  • $5500 per day for 2 people (full day)
