Gowan River Holiday Camp

 

The Gowan River Holiday Camp, set in a small valley amongst mountain scenery, is the perfect base to fish for rainbow and brown trout in the well-stocked Gowan River and nearby Lake Rotoroa.

This well planned and landscaped camp is open all year round. Trout fishing rods are provided and fishing licences can be purchased on-site.

Location

Gowan River Holiday Camp is marked on the Gowan River map and the upper Buller River map.

It is 5km off State Highway 6 on the road to Lake Rotoroa.

Directions

Gowan River Holiday Camp is located off the Gowan Valley Road 5km from State Highway 6, the main inland route between Golden Bay, Motueka, Nelson and Christchurch, or the West Coast.

It is also 10km from Kawatiri corner the turn off to/from Blenheim and Picton. It is situated approximately 20 minutes north of Murchison and 1.5 hours south of Nelson.

  • Kayaks available for hire from $5/hour on the dam or $25/hour on the lake (includes transport to the lake)

  • 3 cabins (sleep 3 each) constructed from former railway goods carriages:
    Cabin 1:
    - has a double bed with bedding provided
    - faces east so gets the morning sun
    Cabin 2
    - has a double bed with bedding provided
    - an ensuite toilet and a small foyer area
    - gets the sun during the day
    Cabin 3
    - has a double bed with a single bunk over it
    - bring your own bedding or hire for a small fee
    - faces west so gets the afternoon sun
  • Excellent ablution block with a disability suite and free showers
  • All indoor facilities are non-smoking
  • Barbecues available for your use.
  • Laundry with automatic machines and a dryer
  • Well-equipped modern communal kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, potbelly stove, all cooking appliances, plus eating and cooking utensils.
  • A basic camp store stocks bread, eggs, milk, spinners, sandfly repellant and licences if you are caught short.
  • Recycle and dump stations
