- Christchurch: 3.5 hours

Setting

The Lodge is situated right on the banks of one of the most famous brown trout rivers in the world. It has approximately 2km of river frontage on the Maruia River. Each cottage has balcony views of the river and native plants.

Accommodation features

There are five deluxe cottages and two grand deluxe cottages. Each cottage has:

  • Large walk-in luggage/dressing room
  • Separate sitting room
  • Ensuite marble bathroom that has a wonderful double hydro-therapy spa bath, separate shower, double vanity, separate toilet and underfloor heating
Lodge facilities

The main lodge facilities include:

  • Sitting room and bar
  • Restaurant
  • A health pavilion with Finnish sauna, changing/shower facilities, a selection of gym equipment and massage by arrangement (advance booking required)
  • Games room with Sky TV, library and pool table
  • Chauffeur/pilot's twin room accommodation available during conferences/meetings
  • Extensive bush walks through 500 acres of beech forest or along a 2.5km stretch of the Maruia River
  • Helicopter landing pad and 600 metre airstrip - a heli-fishing service is available (price on application)
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited within all Lodge buildings
Meetings and conferences

Maruia River Lodge is also an ideal place to have a small executive conference, business planning session or boardroom retreat. The sitting room is set up as a boardroom with break-out areas for tea and coffee and discussion group sessions.

All seven cottages can be configured as twin or double, and can accommodate up to 14 executives in double rooms or 7 in single rooms.

Guided fishing options

Professional guides with 4WD vehicles are available for those wishing to explore some of the many varied and challenging streams and rivers in the district.

The helicopter fly-out service from the Lodge can take you over the hills to beautiful remote valleys - an exhilarating experience in search of that trophy brown.

Maruia River Lodge recommends bringing:

  • Natural green and brown coloured clothing
  • Lightweight rain jacket
  • Lightweight waders
  • Wading shoes with gravel guards (but not felt-soled)
  • Polypropylene long underwear and shorts
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Hat preferably wide brimmed
  • Sunscreen and lip protection (SPF30 full sun-block for high season)
  • Insect repellent
  • Polarised sunglasses

Children To ensure total relaxation for guests, the Lodge does not accommodate children under the age of 16 years. However, an exception is made when one group books the exclusive use of the lodge.

Reservations are confirmed with a credit card number and a deposit of 25% of the total stay.

VISA, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.

Cancellation policy

Maruia River Lodge is a small exclusive lodge so cancellations affect them greatly.

If your reservation or fly fishing package is not rebooked, a percentage of the accommodation and guiding fees is charged:

- Cancellation within 30 days prior to arrival: 25%

- Cancellation within 14 days prior to arrival: 50%

- Cancellation within 7 days or less prior to arrival: 100%

Should the accommodation be rebooked, this fee will be refunded. Guests are strongly advised to take out travel insurance.
