Maruia River Lodge is a stunning riverside retreat that combines stylish comfort, privacy, fine food and wine with the best New Zealand fly-fishing to be found.

Setting

The Lodge is situated right on the banks of one of the most famous brown trout rivers in the world. It has approximately 2km of river frontage on the Maruia River. Each cottage has balcony views of the river and native plants.

There are five deluxe cottages and two grand deluxe cottages. Each cottage has:

The Deluxe Cottage is a spacious suite with:

  • Large walk-in luggage/dressing room
  • Separate sitting room
  • Ensuite marble bathroom that has a wonderful double hydro-therapy spa bath, separate shower, double vanity, separate toilet and underfloor heating
Lodge facilities

The main lodge facilities include:

  • Sitting room and bar
  • Restaurant
  • A health pavilion with Finnish sauna, indoor Jacuzzi, changing/shower facilities, walking machine, and massage by arrangement (advance booking required)
  • Chauffeur/pilot's twin room accommodation available during conferences/meetings
  • Extensive bush walks through 500 acres of beech forest or along a 2.5km stretch of the Maruia River
  • Helicopter landing pad and 600 metre airstrip - a heli-fishing service is available (price on application)
Meetings and conferences

Maruia River Lodge is also an ideal place to have a small executive conference, business planning session or boardroom retreat. The sitting room is set up as a boardroom with break-out areas for tea and coffee and discussion group sessions.

All seven cottages can be configured as twin or double, and can accommodate up to 14 executives in double rooms or 7 in single rooms.

Guided fishing options

Professional guides with 4WD vehicles are available for those wishing to explore some of the many varied and challenging streams and rivers in the district.

The helicopter fly-out service from the Lodge can take you over the hills to beautiful remote valleys - an exhilarating experience in search of that trophy brown.

Standard packages include:

What to bring

Maruia River Lodge recommends bringing:

  • Natural green and brown coloured clothing
  • Lightweight rain jacket
  • Lightweight waders
  • Felt soled wading shoes with gravel guards
  • Polypropylene long underwear and shorts
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Hat preferably wide brimmed
  • Sunscreen and lip protection (SPF30 full sun-block for high season)
  • Insect repellent
  • Polarised sunglasses

These prices are exclusive of 12.5% Goods and Services Tax (GST). Tariffs are subject to confirmation at time of booking.

3 nights, 2 days guided fly fishing

  • One Bedroom Deluxe Cottage:
    - Double occupancy: NZ$4,570 per person per night
    - Single occupancy: NZ$3,460 per person per night
  • Grand Deluxe Cottage:
    - Double occupancy: NZ$6,340 per person per night
    - Single occupancy: NZ$4,570 per person per night

5 nights, 4 days guided fly fishing

  • One Bedroom Deluxe Cottage:
    - Double occupancy: NZ$8,100 per person per night
    - Single occupancy: NZ$6,250 per person per night
  • Grand Deluxe Cottage:
    - Double occupancy: NZ$11,050 per person per night
    - Single occupancy: NZ$8,100 per person per night

Guided Fishing Only

If you just want one day's fishing during your stay, the cost (excluding accommodation) for one or two people is NZ$725.00 inclusive of GST. This includes:

  • One days fishing with a professional guide
  • 4WD vehicle transport
  • Lunch

Please request a guide when you make your reservation as finding a guide at the last minute is not always possible.

Exclusions

Hire of equipment and fishing licenses are not included in tariffs. Fishing licenses are available for purchase from the Lodge.

Children To ensure total relaxation for guests, the Lodge does not accommodate children under the age of 16 years. However, an exception is made when one group books the exclusive use of the lodge.

Reservations are confirmed with a credit card number and a deposit of 25% of the total stay.

VISA and MasterCard are accepted.

Cancellation policy

Maruia River Lodge is a small exclusive lodge so cancellations affect them greatly.

If your reservation or fly fishing package is not rebooked, a percentage of the accommodation and guiding fees is charged:

- Cancellation within 30 days prior to arrival: 25%

- Cancellation within 7 days or less prior to arrival: 100%

Should the accommodation be rebooked, this fee will be refunded. Guests are strongly advised to take out travel insurance.
