|Local fishing waters
For those wishing to combine adventure with their fishing, Motueka Fishing Lodge uses Reid Helicopters to access the remote wilderness rivers the region is famous for. These include the Mokihinui
and the Karamea and its tributaries the Crow and Roaring
Lion, which are accessible by helicopter.
Purpose built in 1985 in
French provincial style to accommodate just 12 guests, the lodge
is designed to harmonize with the surrounding countryside. Its sunlit
verandas, large comfortable lounge, huge open fireplaces and spacious
country kitchen offer guests relaxation in style and comfort.
The driveway takes you past the vineyard which
produces chardonnay grapes which our wine maker Christian Le Gros
lovingly turns into superb oak aged chardonnay.
Your hosts have created a peaceful haven in this
beautiful valley and will personally ensure that your stay at Motueka
River Lodge will be a memorable one.
The lodge provides:
- A large terracotta tiled entry hall that
leads to the guest lounge.
- A spacious guest lounge with dark timber
beams, a massive fireplace, comfortable sofas, corner window seats
and access to a wisteria-clad verandah.
- A kitchen with an antique Irish prep table,
woodburner, benches overflow with bowls of fresh fruit, pantry
filled with homemade preserves and stores and views of deer grazing
against a forest backdrop.
- Six bedrooms finished in a cob-like sand
cement with private bathrooms and wonderful views of the valley.
The Motueka River Lodge
has received many accolades:
- The London Sunday Times named it as one of
the seven best places in the world to stay.
- It is included in Courvoisier’s Book
of the Best covering the finest accommodation and places to visit
in over 60 countries.
- A typical comment from guests:
"What a fantastic setting… beautiful cuisine, friendly
staff and fantastic fishing, what more could you want? We will
definitely be back next year!”
"Thank-You – We have had the most wonderful time and really don’t want to leave you. Watch out Huka Lodge, this place knocks the spots off them – your hospitality should become the thing of legends in NZ."
