The Sleepy Possum and the Naked Possum are situated:

- Sleepy Possum is open all year round

- Just 300 metres from the Sleepy Possum
- Incorporates a cafe, an eco tannery, a retail
possum shop, and a rata nursery
- The entire complex is open daily throughout
the year.
- The Naked Possum works to support the eradication
of the brush tail possum (a destructive pest) in order to ensure
that New Zealand's diminishing native forests, and particularly
the once magnificent rata forest of Golden Bay, are protected
and preserved
Cafe
- The fully licensed, award-winning café
is complete with large outdoor fire, spit roast and barbeque
- The menu features wild New Zealand game (home-made
venison pies with plum sauce for example), fresh garden salads
and a variety of home cooked snacks. Vegetarian and gluten free
customers are well catered for.
- Fully licensed with a full range of “Monteiths”
beers (great with wild game), ‘Blackenbrook” award
winning wines, “Alpine Gold” wild cider and a variety
of RTD drinks for functions.
- Fruit juices, herbal tea and free iced water
are also on offer, plus the very best espresso coffee from Ozone
- Wild game spit roast lunches are a regular
feature on Sunday afternoons throughout the winter
- Evening functions, with open fire and spit
roast meal, are available for large group bookings
- Slow dining is encouraged so you can enjoy
the bush atmosphere to the full
- Open all year; daily from 10am - 6pm; and
late Friday evening for a fireside get-togethers

Naked Possum is the Kaituna Track. Most people choose to walk
to the site of the old Kaituna gold workings (20mins) or on to
the river forks, an easy 3 hour return jaunt.
- A refreshing swimming hole in the Kaituna
River is just a couple of minutes away
- Close to the start of the world famous Heaphy

From Collingwood township, drive 14km inland towards
the Heaphy Track, then 2km along an unsealed road from the Kaituna
bridge turnoff. The Sleepy Possum and the Naked Possum on Kaituna
River Road are clearly signposted along the way. |
