Tophouse Historic Hotel

Tophouse Historic Hotel is a Bed & Breakfast and also has self contained Chalet units. It is a Category A Historic Place listed with The New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Built in 1887 as a hotel in the wild mountains of New Zealand, Tophouse is a solid mud (called "cob") building with six guestrooms and a large open fire burning daily welcoming you when you arrive. You will also be able to celebrate your day's fishing in New Zealand's smallest bar while hearing stories of the past.

Location

Tophouse Historic Hotel marked on the upper Wairau River map and the Black Valley Stream map.

They are situated 9 km north-west of St Arnaud and the Nelson Lakes, and just over an hours drive from Nelson, Blenheim, or Murchison.

Setting

Set on a 700 acre (300 hectare) farm close to the Nelson Lakes National Park.

Accommodation features

In addition to the main house bed and breakfast, the property offers Mountainview Chalets, two bedroom self contained accommodation housing 4 to 5 people each. Pets and children welcome

  • Each chalet has two bedrooms. One with double bed, one with twin beds
  • Two of the four chalets can accommodate five people; these chalets have an extra bed in the lounge area
