Kai Iwi Country Cottages

Kai Iwi Country Cottages are five fully-furnished self-contained cottages in a beautiful garden setting suitable for small and large groups.

They are only a short distance from the magnificent sparkling turquoise waters and pristine white silica sands of the Kai Iwi lakes - an excellent place to experience the best freshwater fishing Northland has to offer and some of the best winter fishing available anywhere in New Zealand.

Location

Kai Iwi Country Cottages are marked on the Kai Iwi Lakes maps.

They are located a 20 minutes drive north of Dargaville on the main road to the Kai Iwi Lakes and only a short distance from the lakes.  The nearest centre for supplies is Dargaville.

Accommodation
  • Cottages sleep between 2 and 14 people each
  • A total of 45 people can be accommodated
  • Each cottage has a full kitchen, laundry and bathroom with shower
  • Linen supplied in Oamari Cottage and Kai Iwi Cottages
  • Evening meals are available on request

Local attractions and activities
  • Walk to Ripiro Beach, the longest beach in New Zealand
  • Maunganui Bluff (approx 5hrs one way – pick up available for Kai Iwi Lakes Country Cottages guests)
  • Trounson National Park where you can do a guided night walk and hopefully see some kiwis in the wild
  • Hokianga Harbour is a day trip and where you can fish off the jetty or take the ferry over to the dunes for some sand boarding
  • Waipoua Forest with Tane Mahuta, the largest Kauri tree
  • The wild West Coast with its wonderful pounding surf and long deserted beaches

The Kai Iwi Lakes are 20 minutes drive north of Dargaville. Follow the signs off SH12.
