Five Rivers Retreat is located in the heart of some of Southland's best brown trout fishing rivers and streams. It offers two stylishly individual designed and decorated guest rooms each with their own private entrance. Fiordland and the Southern Lakes region are at the doorstep, well known for their spectacular scenery, adventure activities (including jet boating and boat cruises), and world famous tramping tracks. Setting

Five Rivers Retreat is a great base for day trips throughout Fiordland and the Southern Lakes region - and you know you can return to a peaceful and relaxing place after a busy day exploring.

Fiordland and the Southern Lakes region are at the doorstep - it's only an hour's drive each to Te Anau and Queenstown. Both places are well known for their spectacular scenery, adventure activities (including jet boating and boat cruises), and world famous tramping tracks. There's also great shopping, and opportunities to sample local cuisine at restaurants and cafes.

Five Rivers Retreat has two stylishly individual designed and decorated guest rooms each with their own private entrance.

  • Rustic Tuscany Room
    The rural rustic feel makes this room warm and welcoming. Decorated in Tuscany tones, the bedroom has a king size bed (able to be converted to twin king singles). The ensuite bathroom features a clawfoot bath (great for relaxing in after a day’s travelling!), large shower, a rimu vanity and tiled heated floor.
  • Pacific Room
    With a distinctly Pacific flavour, this room has a king size bed (able to be converted to twin king singles). The ensuite has a modern feel with a large shower,
    a modern deep bath, a wall-hung vanity, and tiled heated flooring.

Five Rivers Retreat provides guests with:

  • A large lounge for guest usage with tea and coffee making facilities
  • Telephone jack point in room for laptop computer use in each room
  • Television and video
  • Self-service laundry facilities are available on request
Guided fishing options

Five Rivers Retreat owner Rooger has a keen interest in fishing and knows the area well. He can advise freedom anglers as to the best places to go but should you wish to hire a guide he knows and can put you onto the best local guides for the area.

Attractions in the area

Five Rivers Retreat has the following attractions where you are staying:

  • A farm tour on Kotahi Farm
  • Watch and learn about a working farm including the use of trained dogs herding the animals
  • Enjoy feeding the animals on the farms such as the hens and lambs (in season)
  • Take a day trip to New Zealand's most specatular araeas in Fiordland including the famopus Milford and Doubful Sounds
  • Visit the historic and beautiful gold mining areas around Arrowtown
  • Tramp or walk in sopme of New Zealands most specacular scenery

Guided fly fishing:

Five Rivers Retreat recommend that you use the services of a guide for at least part of the time you are fishing in the area so you can learn from those who hafve fished the region for many years. They will arrange a suitable guide for you.
