Fishing waters

The River Lodge is well situated to take advantage of superb fishing in the Auckland/Waikato, Taranaki, Taupo and Wellington regions, and a fishing guide can be arranged.

Helicopter transport in and out of the lodge to fishing spots is available using a local helicopter service (there is a landing area on the property).

There is also catch and release fishing right at the lodge in the Mangawhero River.

Location

The River Lodge is marked on the upper Mangawhero River map and the Manganuioteao River map.

Chalets

The semi self-contained chalets are located near the river beside the beech trees. Each chalet has:

  • Fireplaces are a feature of each chalet with a good stock of firewood provided cold wintery nights

The Lodge

  • The king suite has a large king bed. You can walk out onto a private balcony with 5 piece furniture setting where you can sit in comfort for superb views of Mt Ruapehu.
  • The singles suite has 2 king single beds and comes with river views.
  • The two suites share the bathroom facilities.
  • Luxury personal products, bath robes and heated towel racks are provided.

Directions
  • From the BP station at Ohakune township, drive south towards Raetahi for 5 kms.
  • 50 metres after crossing the Mangawhero Road bridge, make a sharp right turn into Mangawhero River Road ( a gravel road)
  • Drive for 250 metres down the road until you reach The River Lodge on the right hand side.
