Tongariro Holiday Park

 

Tongariro Holiday Park is nestled amidst stunning bush at the feet of three magnificent mountains and surrounded by trout lakes and rivers. Close by are two of the venues for the 2008 world fly fishing champs: Lake Rotoaira and Lake Otamangakau

As well as camp sites, the holiday park offers a range of units and cabins, plus a cafe that is also popular with passing motorists.

Location

Tongariro Holiday Park is marked on the Lake Otamangakau map, the Lake Rotoaira map and the upper Whanganui River map.

Tongariro Holiday Park is siutated on SH 47 and sits right at the edge of the Tongariro National Park with its three mountains: Ngaruhoe (‘Mt Doom’ in the Lord of the Rings), Tongariro and Ruapehu.

Tongariro Holiday Park is the ideal base for exploring all the river and lakes the this magnificent region has to offer. And on the banks of the Tongariro River at Turangi, you will find the Tongariro National Trout Centre – where you can view wild trout through an underwater viewing chamber, see the trout hatchery and even let the kids have a go at catching their own trout.

Trout fishing excursions

Many local operators take trout fishing trips – by boat, raft and even helicopter! Tongariro Holiday Park are happy to advise you of and set you up with an experienced local guide who can show you all the ‘secret spots’.

Cafe

The popular park café serves a wide variety of meals and snacks from its the all day menu and is great value for money. It's open from 8am to 7pm weekdays and to 8pm on the weekends.

Self-contained units The self contained units sleep a maximum of 4 people with 1 queen bed and 1 set of single bunks. Bedding is supplied on the main bed but not the bunks.
Ensuite cabins The newest cabins at Tongariro Holiday Park and the four cosy ensuite cabins which sleep a maximum of 2 people per cabin. They each have a bathroom and queen bed. In all of the cabins they have heating, your own wardrobe, a small desk with drawers and shelves.
Family cabins

Each of the four family cabins sleep up to six people and have two heaters for extra warmth during cold nights.

There is a double bunk bed (with one double bed on the bottom and one single bed on the top) in one room, along with a spacious wardrobe, a small desk with drawers and shelves. There is a set of single bunks in another room, along with a single bed. There are also two power points in each cabin.

Triple cabins The eight triple cabins sleep up to three people and have a wall heater for extra warmth during cold nights. A triple cabin is a single room with one set of single bunks and one single bed in it. A spacious wardrobe, small desk with drawers and shelves are also in this room. There are also 2 power points in each cabin for your own appliances.
Duo cabins The three double cabins sleep up to three people and have a wall heater for extra warmth during cold nights. A duo cabin is a single room with a double bunk bed (with one double bed on the bottom and one single bed on the top), a spacious wardrobe, a small desk with drawers and shelves are also in this room. There are two power points in each cabin for your own appliances.
Twin cabins

The 25 twin cabins sleep two people and have a wall heater providing extra warmth during cold nights.

A twin cabin is a single room with two single beds in it. A spacious wardrobe, a small desk with drawers and shelves are also in this room. There are two power points in each cabin.

Campsites

There are:

  • Twelve powered sites for tents, caravans and campervans
  • More than 20 non-powered sites
Facilities
  • Toilets are housed separately to the shower blocks.
  • Hot showers are free and the water pressure is good
  • The women's bathroom has a hairdryer
  • Laundry with a coin-operated washing machine and dryer Change is available from the office. There is also a washing tub and plenty of washing-line space outside.
  • A dedicated drying room design for drying your gear
  • The communal kitchen has frdges, stoves, a microwave and two large Zip water-heaters. The kitchen also has toasters, kettles, pots and pans - and plenty of cutlery, crockery and utensils if you forget your own!
  • Three large tables each sit 10-12 people in the kitchen area
  • Large outdoor BBQ
  • Card phone on site; calling cards can be purchased from the office.
  • Games and TV room with SKY TV and a DVD Player
  • Pool table and air hockey table (both coin operated).
  • Sports equipment available for guest use in the grounds includes soccer, rugby and tennis balls, a volleyball net
  • Playground and trampoline
  • You can book time in the completely private spa pool
Local attractions and activities
  • Walking tracks for anything from a short stroll to a more serious trekking experience
  • The Tongariro crossing, a challenging one day walk, is very close by
  • In winter, go skiing or snowboarding with equipment hire right on site
  • In summer swim, kayak, raft in the lakes and river
  • Tokaanu Thermal Pools are just a short drive away and open 7 days until 9pm

Cancellations

A $20 administration and cancellation fee is deducted from all deposits refunded due to cancellations.

Refunds are only guaranteed if the reservation is cancelled with 10 days notice.

Cancellation within 10 days attracts a cancellation fee of up to 100% of the deposit paid. Group cancellations may have special conditions.

Directions

From the north:

As you reach Turangi, turn right down State Highway 46 until it turns into State Highway 47.

From the south:

Follow State Highway 1 until you reach Rangipo. Turn left onto State Highway 46. Follow State Highway 46 as it turns into State Highway 47. Tongariro Holiday Park is around 15 minutes from Rangipo.
