Location

Lake Brunner Lodge is marked on the Lake Brunner map.

It is two and half hours drive West from Christchurch, and fifty minutes drive from Greymouth or Hokitika. TranzAlpine Scenic train transfers are also available.

Established in 1868, rebuilt in the 1930s and refurbished in 2005, Lake Brunner Lodge boasts the classic architecture of yesteryear with the comforts and furnishings of today. It offers:

Wildcat Charters based at Greymouth offers guided saltwater fishing trips for small to large groups or individuals, novices to sportsmen. Leigh Kelly, formerly a commercial fisherman, can take you:

  • 1 May-30 Sept:
    Room rate: $290 per room excl. GST

Guided fishing

Guiding tariffs include transport, equipment and lunches.

Fishing licences need to be purchased separately.

Full day guiding: $605 per guide

Half day guiding: $330 per guide

Bookings

Please phone or email to make a booking, or use the online form at the Lake Brunner Lodge website.

A 25% deposit is required to secure a reservation and this may be by credit card guarantee.

Cancellation policy The 25% deposit is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation within 30 days of arrival. Full payment is non-refundable for cancellation within seven days. (This is as per the standard policy of the NZ Lodge Association.)
Directions

From Greymouth or Hokitika (50 minutes)

1. Take Route 6 and head towards Kumara Junction which is between Greymouth and Hokitika.

2. At Kumara Junction take Route 73 toward Arthur’s Pass/Christchurch.

3. Go 7 kms to the town of Kumara and at the end of the town take the left turn where signposted to Mitchells.

4. Follow this road for 9 kms until the next signpost to Mitchells, turn left and cross over a bridge; the road then turns to gravel.

5. Follow the road for 12 kms until the lake comes into view.

6. Watch for the Lodge on the right hand side of the road.

7. Turn right into Lake Brunner Lodge and follow the driveway to reception.

From Arthur's Pass (about an hour)

1. Continue west through Otira and on to Jacksons tavern on the left.
2. Pass Jacksons tavern and turn right towards Lake Brunner crossing the Taramakau River (by Sir Stanley Gooseman Bridge.)
3. Continue straight along this road for 16 kms.
4. Eventually it becomes a gravel/dirt road; continue for a further 5 kms.
5. Pass the sign for Mitchells and cross the single lane bridge.
6. Turn left into Lake Brunner Lodge and follow the driveway to reception.
