Western Rivers Lodge

 

Western Rivers Lodge provides superbly comfortable, private accommodation, locally inspired cuisine and guided fishing trips in the spectacular southern alpine area of the South Island.

The lodge was built specifically with New Zealand's best fly fishing in mind and is situated at the headwaters of four blue ribbon trout rivers (Maruia, Grey, Lewis and Inangahua) offering the classic fly fishing experience.

Setting The lodge is set in seven acres of native bush and gardens and is north facing for all day sun and spectacular views down the Maruia valley and Victoria range beyond.
Accommodation features

The lodge provides:

  • Accommodation in private chalets, each with an en suite bathroom and spacious well appointed bed and living area
  • Two comfortable queen-size beds in each chalet
  • Private sunny verandas with excellent views
  • A quiet and peaceful location
  • A lounge, bar and dining room in the main lodge for guest use
  • Continental or cooked breakfast
  • Exquisite meals which give classic cuisine that "Kiwi" touch
  • A selection of fine NZ wines to complement our menus

Guided fishing options

Western Lodge offers drive out guided fishing trips to the many local rivers as well as helicopter wilderness trips.

A Western Rivers Lodge guiding trip offers anglers:

  • Knowledge of local fishing waters gained from years of experience
  • Help to spot trout and advise the best fly pattern and casting position
  • Photography of the best catches
  • Advice on casting skills and techniques
  • Advice on the best equipment and supplies
  • Flies that have been developed for specific rivers or times of day or season
  • Easy access to 45 different rivers, streams and creeks
  • Average catches of over five pounds and the possibility of landing trophy trout of over ten pounds

Accommodation

Western River Lodge's tariff includes breakfast, lunch and four course dinner:

  • Share twin: NZ$300 per person per night
  • Single: NZ$350 per person per night

Guided Fishing

  • NZ$600 for one angler
  • NZ$650 for two anglers

Helicopter fly outs

  • Prices range from NZ$1000 to NZ$1800 depending on destination

Transfers

  • To or from Christchurch or Nelson (approx two and a half hours drive): NZ$350.00
  • To or from Greymouth (approx one and a half hours drive): NZ$275
