Where
UnitedFuture stands on outdoor recreation
• UnitedFuture has been part of the last
three governments and has a proud record of achievement in protecting
our outdoor heritage. We intend to continue this tradition by ensuring
that Government is responsive to the needs of recreational communities
and the environment we all depend on.
• UnitedFuture seeks to protect and enhance
the long-established New Zealand way of life which includes free
access to, and use of, the great outdoors.
• UnitedFuture stands for protecting and, where necessary,
enshrining in law the egalitarian principles that have allowed all
New Zealanders unfettered access to our rivers, lakes, coastlines,
beaches and forests.
• UnitedFuture stands for the protection of our environment
so that it is available for us and for future generations to enjoy.
• UnitedFuture stands for the right of all New Zealanders
to be able to hunt and fish for recreation and for food for their
families.
What UnitedFuture intends to do:
• Enshrine the
Queens Chain in law to ensure unrestricted access along rivers,
lakes and the foreshore
• Develop public
access to all publicly-owned rivers, forests, lakes and beaches
to ensure all New Zealanders can reach them
• Put in place
a moratorium on hydro schemes on unspoilt wild rivers
• Support the
development of alternative energy sources such as solar, wind and
tide and establish a fund to research alternative renewable energy
source
• Support the
ongoing insulation of all New Zealand homes and buildings to reduce
energy consumption
• Continue to
support the establishment of a National Environmental Standard on
water quality and to impose stronger penalties on any person, business
or municipality that pollutes or degrades any waterway
• Oppose the introduction
of a maritime recreational fishing license to ensure all New Zealanders
retain the right to harvest from the ocean
• Establish a
recreational maritime fishing agency to protect the interests of
the recreational angler
• Give priority
to the rights of recreational anglers when setting quota for maritime
fishing
• Ensure that
all commercial vessels that fish New Zealand waters reach the same
minimum standards as New Zealand flagged ships and ensure that crew
work under the same employment conditions as those employed by New
Zealand companies
• Seek the prohibition
of aerial 1080 poisoning

UnitedFuture is the only political party that
has the needs of the outdoor recreationist at its heart. It is also
the only party that has been able to form a coalition with all governments
under MMP. It therefore presents anglers and hunters with the best
opportunity to have their voice heard in parliament and to influence
the decisions that will affect us and our sport.
