Fishing waters

HuntFish guides cover a wide area of trout and salmon waters in the north east of the South Island, from their base in Marlborough to their high-country homestead in Canterbury. These include:

Marlborough region

- Wairau River

- Waihopai River

- The Branch and Leatham
- Clarence River

Canterbury and the Central South Island

- Rangitata and Opihi Rivers
- the Waitaki hydro canals
- Lake Benmore and Lake Aviemore

- Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki

- Lake Heron, Lake Emily and Lake Emma

Guiding services
  • Individually planned fishing trips throughout the South Island of New Zealand
  • A number of locations may be visited to best experience the range of fishing available
  • HuntFish specialises in small groups of up to three people
  • All flyfishing bookings are exclusive with no overlaps.
  • Maximum of two anglers per guide
  • Group size 4 persons maximum (with a second guide).
  • All non fishers are welcome; tuition is provided.
  • Fishing trips typically start and return to Christchurch or Wellington
  • Tours can extend into a sightseeing tour of the South Island
Accommodation options

Accommodation recommendations are provided and booked for you, unless you prefer to book direct. Options include:

  • The HuntFish Homestead hunting and fishing lodge located in the Canterbury high country surrounded by 9 fishing lakes
  • Old St Mary's Convent luxury 5 star accommodation in Blenheim
  • The Peppertree luxury bed and breakfast in Blenheim
Indicative costs
as at 1 Aug 2007
  • All prices quoted are in New Zealand dollars and include GST (Goods & Services Tax).
  • Included in all quotes are daily rates, lodgings B&B, field preparation, transfers from airport and return to airport.
  • Not included is personal expenditure, selected recreational activities, helicopter hire, expediting costs and taxidermy.
  • Helicopter rates with WindHawk Helicopters start from $NZ1250.00 per hour.
Bookings
  • Prior bookings are essential. Six month advanced bookings recommended
  • 50% deposit of the package is required to confirm your dates.
  • VISA and MasterCard accepted
Cancellations
  • Any booking you cancel within 90 days of the fishing trip incurs loss of deposit.
  • HuntFish cancels trips only under serious weather conditions. Should a rescheduled date not be available your deposit is refunded.
