The strike Adventure® team is led by renowned fly fishing guides and authors Tony Entwistle and Zane Mirfin.

Tony Entwistle, BA, Dip. Tchng.

  • Guiding in the Nelson area since 1980 and responsible for putting the South Island on the international fishing map
  • Life member and past president of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association and currently sits an elected member of the Executive
  • Member of the NZ Fly Fishing Team between 1987 and 1992
  • Awarded the Fish & Game Gold Medal Excellence award for his contributions to and promotion of sport fishing in New Zealand in in November 2006.
  • Prominent in the fishing media including videos, books and magazines

Zane Mirfin, B.Sc, MA

  • Guiding in the Nelson region since 1985
  • Co-author of Brown Trout Heaven – Fly Fishing New Zealand’s South Island
  • Regular contributor of fishing and shooting articles to magazines and winner of the SPARC Award for Recreation/Adventure/Lifestyle Reporting at the National Journalism Awards in 2004.
  • One of New Zealand’s leading trout fishing photographers and senior photographer for Fish & Game NZ magazine
  • Co-founder of the political party Outdoor Recreation NZ
  • Member of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association (NZPFGA)
  • His Master's thesis, Trout Fishing in Nelson – Management of a Recreational Resource was a seminal document on the region’s fisheries.

Premium angling adventures

Strike Adventure® offers a range of premium angling adventures.

Use the table below to compare and choose the angling adventure that suits you best. Note that all adventures and itineraries can be customised to meet your needs or timetable.

Each premium angling adventure:

  • Includes guiding fees, permits, overnight accommodation, tackle, cool drinks, streamside lunches, transport and transfers from the starting point (usually strike Adventure®'s home base in Richmond).
  • Includes all include camping equipment, camping fees and food when camping out overnight
  • May or may not include all meals and helicopter charter fees depending on the adventure chosen.
  • Excludes fishing licenses (please purchase before the trip)
  • Excludes flies and lures. (However your guide will always have backup and won't see you short when something special is needed. Flies and lures can be purchased from strike Adventure®.)
  • Maximises your safety: guides are first-aid and helicopter -safety trained; and satellite phone and epirbs are taken on wilderness trips
  • Gear hire is available for anglers making casual bookings or arranging a personal itinerary

  BOOKINGS, DEPOSITS, PAYMENT AND CANCELLATIONS
Bookings and enquiries
  • Please book with strike Adventure® well in advance if possible and make sure you advise your gear hire requirements
  • Email strike Adventures® or download and print booking forms from the strike Adventures® website
  • A deposit is required to confirm any final booking.
  • All prices are quoted in New Zealand dollars and include statutory Goods and Service Tax (GST) of 12.5%
  • A full itinerary is provided when your booking is confirmed
Deposits
  • Anglers will be supplied with a deposit invoice for guiding fees:
    - For strike Adventure® Premium Angling Adventures others services may be included in the package price.
    - Otherwise the invoice is for guiding fees only and does not apply to any additional costs incurred
  • Strike Adventure® undertakes to hold any fishing dates specified in the deposit invoice for 10 days from the invoice date, pending payment of the deposit.
  • Deposits are charged as follows:
    For premium angling adventures: 33% of the package price.
    For casual guiding bookings or customised itineraries:
    1 day guiding: 100% of guiding fees.
    2 days guiding: 50% of guiding fees.
    3 days or more guiding: 33% of anticipated guiding fees.
  • Full payment including any additional fees and expenses incurred by the angler are charged at the completion of the trip
Payment methods Preferred methods of payment are Visa, Mastercard, bank transfer or bank cheque. Foreign personal cheques are not accepted.
Cancellations For cancellations more than 60 days prior to the reservation date, the deposit will be refunded, minus a $250 booking charge. Thereafter the entire deposit is forfeited unless the client finds a replacement angler.
