Fishing options include:
- Day or overnight trips
- Fishing the Mataura
River
Matching the hatch on the famous Mataura
River can be challenging to say the least, and for this you
can't beat the knowledge of a true local guide. The selective
feeding wild brown trout rise readily to the day time mayfly,
midge and evening caddis
hatches. However, the Mataura river, although sometimes frustrating,
can offer a most enjoyable days fishing and Michael will show
you how to leave with a smile on your face.
- Fishing backcountry
rivers
Sight fishing for wild rainbow and brown trout in the gin clear
backcountry rivers can be an exhilarating experience during summer.
Spring creeks offer even more of a challenge with accurate casting
and very long leaders required.

"Michael, Many thanks for introducing me
to the Mataura River on what was my first visit to NZ. Your knowledge
of the water and where to fish under the days conditions were a
definite advantage and I'd be keen to hook up with you again when
I'm next in the South Island.
Your hints and tips on tactics and your fish
spotting ability allowed me to hook some good fish and made for
an enjoyable and rewarding day - I must admit I was surprised to
see you get the vice out on the bank at one stage to tie a fly to
try to out smart the rainbow we saw in that first stretch that was
refusing all previous offerings - this showed the mark of a very
dedicated and helpful guide."
