Working as a guide in all seasons, Peter specialises in summer back country fishing and is an avid dry fly enthusiast. He covers all the famous back country rivers, headwaters and their tributaries as well as the Lake Taupo watershed.

Background Peter Fordham has has been fly fishing the New Zealand North Island rivers for thirty years. In 1994 he became a professional guide, retiring from 25 years of cattle and deer ranching. He is an NZPFGA member and an innovative fly tier.
Fishing options

Winter (May-September)

Spawning runs of browns and rainbows from Lake Taupo up the Tongariro, Tauranga-Taupo, Waitahanu and a number of smaller rivers, all provide excellent up and downstream fly fishing.

Spring (October-November)

The North Island back country opens for dry fly and nymph fishing. Many trophy fish are taken at this time. Peter offers single or multi day trips with overnight camping and helicopter access to remote beautiful locations holding large trophy fish

Summer (December-March)

Dry fly fishing in the stream and rivers reaches its prime as the temperatures rise in summer. Peter will take you in a summer safari road trip in an air-conditioned vehicle, beginnng and ending in Taupo. Accommodation is at selected farmstays and back country huts, with outstanding food provided.

Equipment

A wading pole is recommended on most freestone rivers as there are rarely any tracks.

All equipment can be supplied but most experienced anglers like to bring their own gear. The All Seasons Fly Fishing website has a list of recommended equipment.
