Drive/walk/wade

Many fishing locations are within 1 ½ hours drive, some as close as 10 minutes.

Local rivers

Fishing the tributaries of Lake Taupo when the trout are spawning is best between May and September. Catch rainbows and browns, commonly weighing 4-6lb but with larger also fish present.

Back country rivers

Enjoy a full days fishing in remote locations, on pristine rivers set amid stunning scenery for rainbows and browns, some of trophy size (for example, the upper Tauranga-Taupo and Okupata Stream, a tributary of the Whanganui River)

Drive/4X4 quad bike

Some excellent wilderness fishing is accessible by quad bike.

Raft fishing

Between December and May, fish the otherwise inaccessible upper reaches of the famous Tongariro River by raft. Raft fishing the the mighty Mohaka is also available.

Charter boat fishing

Fish the stunning Western Bays of Lake Taupo using the method(s) of your choice from Maverick, CPF's 7-metre Haines Hunter with a 225 Yamaha 4 stroke motor and an 8 HP 4 stroke auxilary motor. The boat is fitted with two down-riggers and is also suitable for harling, jigging and sightseeing.
