Waitapu Road
Bridge
Take SH60 through Takaka towards Collingwood.
There is ample parking on the Takaka side of the bridge (on
the true right).
A foot access track runs both upstream and downstream. |

Takaka Township
There is vehicle access to the true
right side of the river via Riellys Road which is past
the Citizen's Band Rooms. Both fly and spin fishing opportunities
exist here. |

Kotinga Bridge
Turn off SH60 approximately 2 km south
of Takaka onto Long Plain Road. After crossing the bridge,
take the first right turn. Drive along the narrow gravel track
for about 500 metres and park. There is good upstream access
particularly for fly fishers. |
| Middle reaches |

Paynes Ford Bridge
The Paynes Ford reserve is off SH60 south
of Takaka, on the true
left of the Takaka River. Park at the reserve (where there
are also picnic tables and toilets).
Upstream access: From the far end of the
reserve, a walking track follows the old railway line upstream.
Downstream access: Cross the river to
the Waingaro River confluence which enters on the true
left. |

Stoney Creek
The Stoney Creek Bridge is south of Takaka
on SH60. Park on the Takaka side of the Stoney Creek Bridge
and follow the track that is immediately north of the bridge
for 150 metres to the river. Expect dry conditions through
the summer months. |

Lindsays Bridge/Uruwhenua
Reserve
Lindsays Bridge is on SH60 south of Takaka.
Park in the picnic area on the Nelson side (true right) of
the bridge. Move upstream for good fly fishing. |

Uruwhenua Road
From SH60 about 100 metres north of Lindsays
Bridge, turn into Uruwhenua Road and follow the road for 4
km until you reach the gate. There is good fly fishing both
upstream and downstream. |
| Upper reaches |
| Access to the upper reaches
is along the scenic Cobb Valley Road (off SH60). Please take
your time and take care when driving this road as although sealed
it is narrow and windy. |

Blue Hole Picnic Area
Turn off SH60 into Cobb Valley Road. After
around 5.5 km follow the gravel track into the grassed reserve
and park. This is a beautiful bush setting with esxcellent
fishing upstream to the bridge. |

Appletree Flat
Turn off SH60 into Cobb Valley Road. After
13.8 km you will arrive at Appletree Flat, a small grassy
area of flat land. |

Drummonds Flat
Turn off SH60 into Cobb Valley Road and
drive for 15.8 km to Drummonds Flat , which is the last picnic
area before the powerhouse. Here the riverbed is steeper and
the flow more turbulent. |
