Lake
Wiritoa provides easy fishing for a good population of stocked rainbow
trout. A
Lake Wiritoa Kids Fish Out Day is organised and run by the Wanganui
Anglers Club club each October.
Lake Wiritoa is a small clear
lake that is popular for a variety of water sports. As motorboats
are also allowed on the lake, it is best to during the cooler
months or early in the morning or evening.
Access
Lake Wirotoa is approximately
3 km south of Wanganui on State Highway 3. There is a turnoff
from SH3 to the lake.
Methods
The most popular and productive
method is spinning. Provided there are not a lot of other activities
on the lake, nymph and harling can also be productive.
Recommended tackle
Spinning rods capable of casting
7 gram lure are the most popular.
Recommended lures
Dry
flies: During the summer try cicada,
cricket and
beetle patterns
(though this is not known as a good dry fly venue).
