Support the Silver Flies

The NZ Silver Flies is the national fly fishing team which is selected every year from the top qualifying anglers at the SFFNZ National Championships. The current team will represent New Zealand at the World Fly Fishing championships in Slovenia, June 2012.

The Silver Flies offer a special fly tied by one of the team members in appreciation of any donations of $20 or more towards their travel and accommodation costs.

The 2011/2012 team is:

The NZ Fly Fishing team is running a series of clinics catering for all levels of ability, from beginner to experienced angler over the next 12 months.

The clinics will cover; reading rivers, where to fish, spotting and casting to fish, flies, leaders, knots, fly tying and flies types etc.

You will learn more in two days than in you would pick up fishing by yourself in two years. The intention is to hold clinics in a number of regions depending on demand. There will be no more than one to two anglers to each team member so there will be plenty of one-on-one tuition.

Although the Silver Flies are a recognised national sports team, they receive no funding to support their members through any sports body.

Make a donation and receive a special fly

If you would like to help support the team go for gold in Slovenia 2012 you can send a donation to the Silver Flies. Every person who donates a minimum of $20 towards the team will receive a special fly tied by one of the team members especially for the competition in Slovenia. Each of these flies are unique and cannot be found in any sports shop. It will be a great momento and keepsake (and may be the very pattern that brings home the gold medal!)
