Kinloch Fishing Competition

The Kinloch Fishing Competition, hosted by the Kinloch Community Association, has grown to be the largest event of its type in New Zealand. Several hundred keen anglers battle it out on Lake Taupo over 3 days.

Proceeds go toward local community projects, and records of fish weights provide DOC with valuable data on the state of the Lake Taupo fishery.

2008 dates Friday 17th to Sunday 19th October 2008
2008 results

This year 354 anglers registered for the competition (down by 25% over last year) and weighed in 446 fish despite the inclement weather on the Saturday which is the major fishing day. This year the quality of the fish was markedly improved, both in weight and condition factor.

The "Best Trout of the Tournament" was won by Peter Hinton with a nice rainbow weighing in at 1.524kg with a condition factor of 69.2506.

The "Heaviest Rainbow Trout" was caught by John Ratcliffe and weighed 2.8710kg with a condition factor of 41.4816.

The "Heaviest Brown Trout" was caught by Wayne Fitton weighing 2.831kg with a condition factor of 43.9702.
