Waimakariri River Salmon Fishing Competition

The annual Waimakariri River fishing competition normally runs in March each year.

Organised by the New Zealand Salmon Anglers Association, anglers compete for around $5000 of prizes by fishing for the runs of salmon the river is famous for.

2012 competition date

10 March 2012 (24 March - backup date)

Competiton area

All the river area below the Main Road Bridge but excluding the Kaiapoi River.

Times Start time is first light and the competiton closes at 4.00pm. Final weigh-in is 4.15.
Cost

Entry costs:

  • $25 per competitor
  • $15 NZ Salmon Angler member
  • Free to junior anglers under 16 years of age
  • $10 late entry fee (after 24 Feb)
Social events

Social event and prize giving :

  • 5.00pm Social hour at Kaiapoi Club
  • 6.00pm Prize giving
  • 7.00pm Evening meal (cost $35 per person)
