Brown Beetle trout fly

Description and use

The Brown Beetle trout fly is a heavily tied pattern that represents the Brown Beetle also known as the grass grub beetle. There are many different versions of this fly.

It is very effective early in the summer months around November to December when these grass grub beetles are flying as many land on the water becoming a very tasty mouthful for the waiting trout. Although they can be effective at any time of day they are particularly effective in the evening and if this coincides with a summer shower which seems to always knock this lumbering insects onto the water.
