DOC List of Proposed Campgrounds

The following is a list of 94 locations identfied in 2007 by the Department of Conservation where low impact campgrounds could potentially be developed or existing camping opportunities expanded. The development of sites is dependant on the outcome of stakeholder consultation, an assessment of demand, and resources.

The Department of Conservation is providing camping opportunities in the backcountry, with relatively few facilities. These are not campsites with swimming pools, cabins, and other facilities of the sort which would normally be provided by the private sector.
