Montrose Salmon Release, Open Day and BBQ:
Sunday 13th July 2008

The open day at Montrose this year is now Sunday the 13th July (rather than 6th July which was called off due to weather conditons). Fish and Game will be releasing 60,000 salmon smolt into the Rakaia River. This is also a great opportunity to view this year’s hatch of young salmon.

Those wishing to attend should meet at the Yaldhurst Pub car park at 9 am on the Sunday morning. Fish & Game will supply a BBQ lunch and drinks. For those wishing to make theirr own way to Montrose, head south a few kilometres from the Rakaia Gorge Bridge on SH72 and turn right at the first road, Blackford Road. Head up Blackford Road for approximately 6km and you will see a Fish & Game banner on the Montrose gate on your right. Head down the track, stick to the right of the ponds and you will arrive at the hatchery.
