Taumarunui Holiday Park is situated in a fantastic location on the Whanganui River which flows right alongside it. It is surrounded by native bush in a ruggedly beautiful setting with lots of wonderful bird life.

Accommodation options include powered and unpowered camp sites, cabins and a a self-contained cottage.

Taumarunui Holiday Park is marked on the upper Whanganui River map and the Ongarue River map.

  • Fantastic location on the banks of the Whanganui, a river that can be fished year round
  • The New Zealand Fly Fishing team, the Silver Flies visit the park to practice fishing the Whanganui River

Powered campervan sites

  • 32 powered sites for campervans

  • A dump station is also available


  • Family cabins have a double bed and a set of bunks
  • Two to three person cabins have two or three single beds
  • The beds have pillows and a bottom sheet
  • Bedding and towel hire is available
  • Plates and cutlery is provided in all cabins
  • All cabins are heated and are non smoking
  • Cabins have use of the communal kitchen, toilets and showers

Self contained cottage

  • A double bedroom and bunks for the children
  • Private bathroom and kitchen
  • Private kitchen supplied with all crockery and cutlery, pots and pans, small colour TV, microwave, hotplates and fridge
  • Bedding and towel hire available

Communal facilities

  • The communal kitchen is well equipped with modern full-sized stoves, a microwave, fridge and colour TV
  • The guest laundry has a commercial washing machine and dryer
  • Clean ablution block and showers that are not metered
  • A gas BBQ is provided free for guest use
Local attractions and activities
  • Canoeing on the Whanganui River
  • Walking the Tongariro Crossing, one of New Zealand's finest day walks
  • Walk the many other local tracks, such as Ohinetonga, Sunshine track, Round the Mountain and the Northern Circuit
  • Skiing on the Whakapapa ski fields, just 35 minutes drive away
  • Do the Raurimu Spiral: a great way to see the Central Plateau, this trip takes you down to National Park then back to Taumarunui in half a day

  • $17 per adult per night
  • $10 per child per night
  • $5 per infant

Small standard cabins

  • $50 for two adults per night
  • $15 per extra adult per night
  • $8 per child per night

Large standard cabins

  • $60 first two people

Self contained Cottage

  • $80 first two people
  • Extra Adults in Cabins and Cottage $19 each
  • Extra Children in Cabins and Cottage $10 each
  • Infants under 4yrs in Cabins or Cottage $5 each
  • Bedding set hire (including towels) $5 per set
  • Travel Cot and High Chair hire $6 each or $10 for both

Cancellation policy We understand that all cancellations have reasons behind them and that each case is different. In some cases we are able to issue a voucher to the value of your payment/deposit, to be redeemed against a future stay within the next 6 months.
