Client feedback

"With crystal clean, fast flowing waters and plentiful big trout, all you need is good weather to ensure a wonderful time. We went with Gary Harlen, who takes you to at least 4 different rivers (over 6 days) with lovely Maori names, such as the Ngaruroro, the Tuki Tuki, the Tutaekuri and the Waipawa. During the day, one encounters wild deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, geese, ducks, fantails, hawks, sea birds and of course, monster trout.. We saw trout, ranging from 8-12 lbs and hooked and hooked into a number of these. The ones we landed and released ranged from 3 lbs to 8 lbs. With tasty venison, lamb and fresh seafood, washed down with New Zealand Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, pleasant dreams and memories were ensured."
John    ( Australia)

"It has taken well over ten guided trips to New Zealand to find the best Fly - fishing Guide. Just minutes to the river each day! Gary is a great guide, companion and cook, master fish spotter and takes more time to advise on better skills, different techniques and local conditions. I came away with improved skills, more knowledge, my best fish, more confidence and a very strong desire to come back."
Ewan

"I have fished with many guides throughout the world and have found Gary to be one of the best. His techniques of spotting and stalking Hawke's Bay large wild Brown and Rainbow Trout are something amazing. Gary's expertise and wealth of local knowledge guarantee you a most memorable day of fishing. Fly fishing with Gary is an unforgettable experience."
Ted Peterson, Maine, USA

"In my many years of fishing, I have yet to meet a guide with fish spotting ability like Gary. His nymphing techniques are a revelation...
He is the consummate professional in everything he does... and he is a great cook!"
